DODGE CENTER , MINN. ( January 17, 2006 ) – McNeilus Companies, Oshkosh Corporation and London Machinery Inc. announced today that the Eagle Eye™ obstacle detection system, manufactured by Transportation Safety Technologies, Inc., is now available exclusively to the ready-mixed concrete industry on their rear-discharge and front-discharge mixer trucks. McNeilus is displaying and demonstrating the Eagle Eye system at the World of Concrete show in Las Vegas, January 17-19.
The Eagle Eye system provides ready-mix truck drivers with location and distance information regarding potential hazards hidden in vehicle blind spots. The system is particularly effective in alerting drivers to hazards during lane changes, turns, or tight maneuvers at job sites. Easy to install sensors located on the trucks act like sonar, sending ultrasonic waves to detect obstacles and provide both audio and visual warnings to the driver.
"We're very excited to offer this new safety option on McNeilus and London rear discharge mixers as well as the S-Series front discharge truck,” said Mike Wuest, president of McNeilus Companies. "The Eagle Eye system adds a new level of security and will help drivers avoid costly and potentially tragic accidents."
McNeilus and London rear-discharge mixers will be available with up to six sensors. Two are located on the rear corners of the tag axle, two more on the corners of the rear bumper, one at the middle right (passenger side) of the vehicle and one at the front right (passenger side) bumper.
Oshkosh S-Series™ front-discharge mixers will be available with either four or five sensors. On front-discharge trucks two sensors are located at the corners of the rear bumper, and two more on either side of the vehicle's mid-point. An optional fifth sensor is located on the catwalk above the cab to detect overhead obstacles.
Complete details on the Eagle Eye obstacle detection system are available through McNeilus, London and Oshkosh sales representatives.
