Oshkosh® S-SeriesT Adds Features and Subtracts 2,000 Pounds

Oshkosh, Wis. (January 17, 2006) – Oshkosh Corporation [NYSE: OSK] announced today that its S-Series™ front-discharge concrete mixer truck is now available with the Revolution® composite mixer drum. Total weight savings compared to a similar-sized steel drum is a full 2,000 pounds, which means an available payload unmatched by any other front discharge mixer in the industry. In addition, Oshkosh also unveiled several upgrades to the S-Series chassis that enhance safety, durability and serviceability. The vehicle currently is on display at the Oshkosh / McNeilus booth C-6869 at the World of Concrete trade show in Las Vegas .

“Front discharge producers have been waiting for the Revolution to give them a serious payload advantage,” said Mike Wuest, president of McNeilus Companies, an Oshkosh Corporation subsidiary. “We've spent a tremendous amount of time and energy to engineer, design and test the Revolution drum for front discharge applications. The 2,000 pound weight savings can mean a significant increase in productivity.”

The new front-discharge Revolution drum features a smooth exterior finish that provides easy-cleaning characteristics and an ideal surface for producer to apply graphics and decals.

More than 1,000 McNeilus® Revolution drums currently are in service in rear discharge fleets. The lightweight, composite drum is certified through independent testing conducted by the respected Truck Mixer Manufacturers Bureau (TMMB).

Because the Revolution drum itself is 2,000 pounds lighter than a comparable steel drum, ready mix producers can carry an additional one-half cubic yard of concrete per load. Assuming four loads per day and 250 working days per year, the productivity gain is estimated at $7,500 annually. In addition, lower vehicle weight on the return trip means reduced fuel consumption.

Oshkosh has also made a number of S-Series chassis enhancements to improve durability, reliability and serviceability, including:

  1. Stainless steel tubing to replace rubber hoses for hydraulic and fuel lines.
  2. PVC pipe shields and supports for harnesses and hoses that provide greater protection and eliminate the need for numerous cushion clips between mixer pedestals.
  3. All-new hood styling provides improved cooling efficiency to accommodate 2007 engine requirements.
  4. Space for optional integrated LED turn signals, work lights and strobe lights at the upper section of the rear hood.
  5. Improved Load-Span® Tag Axle fenders made from Metton plastic (found on many snowmobiles), which provides greater durability than other materials. Plus, an improved profile on all fenders reduces tire spray onto the drum while reducing weight by 70 pounds.
  6. Lincoln® Quicklub® central point grease system for turntable, drum rollers, spring pins and other common greased locations features metered flow to each location.
  7. Vulcan mixer scale located on the rear pedestal measures vehicle payload with an in-cab display or optional interface with a Trimble fleet management system.

“The S-Series continues to set the standard for performance and reliability in front-discharge mixers,” says Wuest. “These new enhancements, in addition to the available Revolution drum, give our customers a tremendous advantage in productivity, performance and profit to the bottom line.”

The Oshkosh S-Series is backed by the Oshkosh / McNeilus support network — the most extensive service and support network in the industry — consisting of 20 branch offices and service centers conveniently located across the United States .
